Plain-language answers about PRESTO, airport Wi‑Fi, 211, accessibility, live transit and more.
PRESTO is a reloadable fare card used on most Ontario transit systems. Tap the card on the yellow reader when you board, and tap again on GO Transit and UP Express when you exit.
A transfer means changing from one bus, subway or train to another. With PRESTO, transfers are usually free within a 2-hour window on most Ontario systems.
Subway = underground city train (TTC). GO = regional trains and buses. UP Express = direct train Pearson ↔ Union. Buses and streetcars run on city streets.
Most agencies accept PRESTO, contactless credit/debit, and cash. Exact-change cash is fine on TTC buses; PRESTO or contactless is easiest for transfers.
Most Ontario airports offer free Wi-Fi in the arrivals area. Look for the official airport network name on signs before connecting — avoid look-alike networks.
If transit is unavailable, use the official taxi stand or rideshare pickup area. Confirm the driver and licence plate before getting in.
Some airports and settlement partners offer in-person newcomer support. Availability and hours vary by airport — check signage on arrival.
A short checklist for the first hour after landing: Wi-Fi, taxi backup, help lines, and emergency numbers.
You can set a preference for elevator-equipped routes in Profile → Accessibility needs. We'll favour step-free options when planning trips.
Travelling with luggage, a stroller, or limited mobility? Turn on 'Avoid stairs' in Profile to see routes that minimise stair use.
Most Ontario operators allow extra boarding time on request. Let the driver know before stepping on if you need more time.
Some agencies don't publish live vehicle data all the time, or the feed is temporarily offline. You can still plan a route using scheduled service.
Service alerts tell you about delays, diversions and disruptions. We surface them on the route results, schedules and nearby pages.
The Nearby map shows live vehicles and stops where data is available. Tap any vehicle marker for the agency, route and last update.
We use Google's transit data to compute routes, then add plain-language guidance. You can keep using Google Maps for turn-by-turn walking once you're off transit.
Your location is used only when you tap 'Use my location' — never in the background. It stays on your device unless you save a trip.
